Weekend Writing Warriors ~ 04/08/18 To Woo A Wicked Widow ~ The Worst Possible Moment

This will be the last snippet from To Woo A Wicked Widow. Next week I’ll begin for with my next release, Only Seduction Will Do, which will be out in early June.

So I’m skipping ahead a couple of pages after last week when Charlotte,  seeking Alan Garrett who is leaving the house party in the middle of the night to attend his dying uncle,  opened the doors of the library, tripped on her skirts again, and landed in Nash’s arms. He takes advantage of the situation to ply her with a passionate kiss. We will pick up, in Nash’s POV still, toward the end of that kiss.

(Extraordinarily creative punctuation utilized to conform to WWW rules.)

Every inch of him tingled with the need to touch her skin, enfold himself around her, possess her completely in every way. No other woman had ever moved him this deeply; scary as hell, yet satisfying beyond belief.

Still, he must move with caution for despite her sweet responses, he couldn’t assume she wished to pursue an even deeper intimacy tonight; best give her the opportunity to make her intentions known.

Nash began to ease away from her when he became aware they were not alone.

Damnation…and at the worst . . . well, almost worst possible moment. Instinctively, he spun them around so she stood behind him, her identity shielded slightly at least. Too bad she was not a young miss—then the earl could have them leg-shackled before the ink dried on the special license; still, it would be enjoyable to spend some time wooing Lady Cavendish.

Nash swung back around, frowning at the intruder, who should have been abed by now anyway.

“My pardon, my lord, my lady, but if you desired more privacy I would have suggested you close the door,” the dark figure’s voice held a wry tone—respect tinged with knowing laughter.

Before Nash could upbraid the man for his impertinence, the lady poked her head around his side, took a sharp, in-drawn breath and said, “Mr. Garrett?”

BLURB for To Woo A Wicked Widow:

The war years are behind them.
The future is before them.
And one by one, the widows of Lyttlefield Park are getting restless . . .
Lady Charlotte Cavendish is still the spirited girl who tried to elope in the name of love. That dream was thwarted by her father who trapped her into a loveless, passionless marriage. But now widowed, Charlotte is free to reenter the giddy world of the ton—and pursue her desires. For hardly your typical widow, she remains innocent to the pleasures of the flesh. Yet her life is finally her own, and she intends to keep it that way . . .

Nash, the twelfth Earl of Wrotham, is beguiled by Charlotte at first sight—and the feeling is mutual. When he receives her intriguing invitation to a house party, the marriage-minded lord plans to further their acquaintance. But even he cannot sway her aversion to matrimony, and only with great restraint does he resist her most tempting offer. For unbeknownst to Charlotte, the misadventures of the past are revisiting them both, and bedding her could cost him everything—or give him everything he ever wanted . . .
