Lady Katarina Fitzwilliam has been kidnapped and auctioned in a brothel to the highest bidder, a masked man she is now trying to convince she is not a harlot. This begins a page or so after last week’s snippet. Upon learning that her father is dead, the masked man begins to comfort Kat. Surprisingly, she begins to respond to his sensual kiss. This snippet occurs just a  few paragraphs after last week’s snippet ends.

His response, a rumbling throaty groan, sent exquisite vibrations humming through her breast; then he lifted her in powerful arms, carried her the few feet to the bed and laid her on the blue coverlet. Dazed by the throbbing ache deep within her, bereft of his lips, she struggled to lift her head. As if roused from a drugged sleep, she rolled onto her side and raised her head. The man, the stranger, had not only removed his cloak, but was quickly unfastening his breeches.

She shot upright and scrabbled wildly, trying to escape backward across the bed, but could find no purchase on the slick counterpane. The man advanced, his lips beneath the mask quirked in a wicked smile.

“And I thought you were enjoying yourself, my lady,” he said, and chuckled in his chest again. “But I see you are still reluctant. Come, let me help you forget your troubles once more.”

“Nooo!” she shrieked as she scrambled off the bed, making for the door, praying wildly that it was unlocked.

Only Scandal Will Do is available at Amazon currently for $1.99.

Blurb:

He has the woman of his dreams, but what price will he have to pay to win her heart?

Kidnapped and sold at auction in a London brothel, Lady Katarina Fitzwilliam squelches an undeniable attraction to the masked stranger who purchased her, pits her wits against him, and escapes him and the scandal that would ruin her life.

Unable to resist temptation in a London brothel, Duncan Ferrers, Marquess of Dalbury, purchases a fiery beauty. She claims she’s a lady, but how can she be? No lady of his acquaintance in polite society is anything like her. Then he discovers she is who she says, and that this latest romp has compromised her reputation. He knows how that is. One more scandal and he’ll be cast out of London society, but he needs a wife who’ll provide an heir to carry on his illustrious family’s name. He seeks out Katarina, intending only to scotch the scandal, but instead finds his heart ensnared. He’s betting their future he’ll capture her heart, but does he have what it takes to win the wager?

WARNING: A blade-wielding heroine who crosses swords with a master of sensuality.

I hope she gets away, but he doesn’t seem likely to give up the chase easily. If the door is locked, I’m a fan of a well-placed knee!
