Crash Into Me: Interview with Jessica E. Subject and Crash Landing

CrashLandingTour

Today I’m welcoming once more my great friend and fellow Decadent Publishing author, Jessica Subject.  She’s just released a new short story for Decadent’s Edge Line and I’m so happy she’s here to tell us about Crash Landing.

Hello, Jessica.  So wonderful to have you back with another fabulous new book!  Can you tell us a little about it?

Crash Landing is a sci-fi erotica short story about Cael, an alien on a solo peace mission to Earth. Unfortunately, his ship crashes. Here’s the blurb:

As his ship plummets toward Earth, Cael believes his life to be over. His last-ditch effort to save himself ends in a fiery crash. When he wakes up, he believes he’s entered the afterlife, but his surroundings indicate otherwise. He made it to Earth. But who saved him, and what do they want with him?

Ooh, excellent question!  Do you only write in this genre?  If not, what other genres/sub-genres do you write in?

I write a lot of science fiction romance, and also write contemporary romance. I have a paranormal story out too, called The Power of Three. They can be New Adult, Erotic Romance, and Erotica.

What was your inspiration for this story?

My editor, Kate Richards, and I were discussing blue aliens, and this idea popped into my head. Though the story isn’t exactly as it first started out. The story originally was going to take place in the water, and be strictly M/M, but Tara forced her way into the story, and brought the guys to dry land.

Don’t you love pushy characters like that? LOL

Titles are one of the most important things to an author.  How did you come up with your title?  Was this the only title, or did you have a working title as well?

This story was always going to be called Crash Landing. It starts out with Cael crash landing on Earth. Sometimes, the title comes first, and other times I struggle in finding the right one.

I do understand that.  And the title has to be just right or it throws the whole book off.

I am also a fanatic about my character names. Are the character names in Crash Landing special in any way?

Yes, I’m glad you asked. I wanted the names of the characters to have meaning since they all originate from a different place. I used GoogleCrashLanding Translate to find the Latin words for space, water, and land. Thus, the characters are named Cael, Mare, and Tara.

How cool is that!  Love the idea of Latin names!

What was your process for writing this book?  Is this different or the same as other books you’ve written?

With every story, I let the idea turn in my head for a couple of days. Then I write, edit, send to my critique partners, edit some more, and submit. This story skipped my CPs and was submitted after a few rounds of edits.

Do you have plans to turn Crash Landing into a series?  Why or why not?

No, I don’t have any plans to turn this story into a series. It was written simply as a short story. Though it does belong to The Edge erotica line at Decadent Publishing. I have two other books in that line, The Power of Three, and Alien Lover which releases tomorrow. And I do have other stories with blue aliens, such as Celestial Seduction and Satin Sheets in Space.

Now for some non-book related questions.

Who is your favorite hero or heroine and why?  What qualities do they possess that make them memorable?

Oh my gosh, I love all of them. In the books I’ve read, and the ones I’ve written. If the hero is a sexy alien or a clone, even better. But it’s so hard to choose.

Yeah, that’s loaded question all right. 🙂  It is so hard to choose, isn’t it?

Who was the first author and book you read in this genre?

There is quite a bit of science fiction romance, and science fiction erotica. The problem with the erotica is that most of sex with aliens involves tentacle (octopus-like) aliens. I’ve read a couple, but the stories just didn’t do it for me. I prefer my aliens to be more Human-like and sexy as hell. And sometime they have blue skin. LOL In the SFR genre, the first book I remember reading was Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch. I’ve read so many other awesome ones as well, and have plenty more waiting on my e-reader.

Tentacle sex does NOT appeal to me in the slightest!  Although I loved the scene from Galaxy Quest where Fred got it on with a tentacled alien! LOL

Who has been the greatest influence on your writing?

I’ve met some fabulous author online and in person over the last three years, and many of them have greatly influenced my writing, helping me to improve my style all the time. I’m very grateful for all of their help and guidance.

If you could have one wish granted just for you (not world peace, LOL), what would you wish for?

Just for me? Wow! I don’t usually think in that mode, especially since becoming a mother. I guess it would be to move into a big house in the middle of a forest. Perfect!

Ooooh the peace and quiet you’d have!  Heaven!

What is the most exciting/daredevil thing you’ve ever done?

When I was a kid, I used to carry snakes around my neck and went zip-lining at camp, but haven’t done much of that as an adult. I went topless once at a conservation area, but there was no one around. Just my husband and I, and nature. It was so hot, and since he could take his shirt off, I decided to take mine off, too. Oh, and I got my first tattoo almost two months ago now.

Jeez, Jessica!  Snakes, tattoos and public nudity!  Daredevil should be your middle name! LOL  You go, girl!  And thanks so much for guesting on my blog today.

Thanks so much for hosting me on your blog, Jenna!

Jessica’s also made a trailer for her Sci-Fi books.  Please tak a look here:  http://youtu.be/p1Wr59y9F5I
